Driver CPC

With the introduction of mandatory training for all vocational drivers (PCV September 2008 and LGV September 2009) LGV and PCV licence holders now need to attain the ‘Drivers' Certificate of Professional Competence' (CPC) to allow them to continue to drive professionally.

With a few exceptions, established drivers are required to undergo 35 hours of Periodic Training within a five year period commencing September 2008 to September 2013 for PCV drivers and September 2009 to September 2014 for LGV.  During every subsequent five year period a further 35 hours of Periodic Training has to be undertaken to maintain use of the vocational licence.

New drivers acquiring their first vocational licence are required to undergo Initial Qualification, consisting of four Test Modules. Once qualified, these drivers are also required to undergo 35 hours of Periodic Training every five years' as driver CPC is an ongoing qualification.
